Introduction: Gastric cancer (GC) is the most common cancer type in worldwide. Detection of various biomarkers for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of this disease is crucial. This study aim was investigating the association of lncRNA ITPK1-AS1 gene expression changes in gastric cancer patients.
Methods: For this research, 20 tumor samples and 20 tumor margin samples were taken from gastric cancer patients referred to Imam Khomeini Hospital in Tehran, under the supervision of a specialist doctor. RNA was extracted from samples and after synthesized cDNA, lncRNA ITPK1-AS1 gene expression changes in tumor samples and tumor margins were studied by Real Time PCR method. Then data was statistical analyzed.
Results: In this study effect of different parameters as, age, genus, smoking, Helicobacter pylori infection there were not statistically significant between case and control groups (P>0.05). The results showed that the expression changes of lncRNA ITPK1-AS1 in the tumor sample compared to the tumor margin was increased by 4.024 ± 0.46 times and this increase was significant (p<0.0001).
Conclusion: According to the results, lncRNA ITPK1-AS1 gene expression could be related to gastric cancer disease and considered as an RNA biomarker for gastric cancer diagnosis and prognosis. Further studies for confirming of results were recommended.
